Expeditor/Purchasing Agent

The expeditor plays a key dual role. In helping a construction company prepare winning bids, the expeditor uses his knowledge of construction materials and suppliers to help estimators formulate initial bids. In the field, this position is responsible for making sure the right amount of material arrives on site at the right time so work schedules stay on track to meet deadlines. It is also an expeditor's job to make sure there are an adequate number of workers on site to meet any given work requirement of a project.

Strong language, negotiation, accounting and business administration skills are a big part of this job, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while managing many things at once.
